In this insightful webinar with presenters Céleste McKay and Craig Benjamin, we will explore the profound impact of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This presentation will be divided into two parts:
Part 1: Historical Overview and Significance
- Discover the history of the Declaration and its importance.
- Learn about the Indigenous advocacy efforts that led to its adoption.
- Understand the key elements of the Declaration and its relationship to other international human rights standards.
Part 2: Application in Canada
- Examine how the Declaration has been incorporated into Canadian legislation.
- Explore its application by the courts.
- See how it is fostering new partnerships between Indigenous Peoples and other sectors of society.
Céleste McKay will share her unique insights from her experience advocating for Indigenous Peoples at the UN during the Declaration’s final development phases and subsequently on co-development of implementation strategies.
There will be dedicated time for questions after each segment.
